International Falls Police Department 

Theft: Two thefts were reported at Can-Am Fisheries, 22 22nd St., Tuesday. Cement, valued at $1,500, and construction material, value unknown, was reportedly taken. 

Property damage: James E. Jessop reported Tuesday that renters at 1714 Seventh Ave. had put holes in the walls, causing $800 in damage.

Personal injury collision: Vehicles driven by Craig R. Trott and Amber C. Vohler collided at the intersection of Seventh Avenue West and 10th Street Friday, causing more than $1,000 in damages. Two people were transported to Falls Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. No further information was known.
Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office
Theft: David R. Anderson reported Thursday that a boat motor, valued at $1,000, was taken from 2115 County Road 116.

Theft: Sarah J. Thate, 624 Seventh St., reported Wednesday that two bikes, valued at $500, had been taken from her front yard sometime during the night.
Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office
Fire: A fire on an island west of Fransen Island on Rainy Lake was reported Wednesday afternoon. The fire burned a 50-foot by 50-foot area. It began as a fire that had not been completely extinguished and the wind picked it up. It was extinguished by Camp Kooch with its water boat. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources assisted.

Assault: William B. Ehlert, 311 Sixth St., was transported to Falls Memorial Hospital Thursday after being struck by a baseball bat.
Collision: A vehicle driven by Robert D. Claude, 66, Leroy, Mich., backed into a vehicle driven by Michael S. Brennard, 48, 1112 Eighth Ave., Saturday in the parking lot of Super One, 1313 Third St., causing more than $1,000 in damages.

Gas prices have spurred rise in use of alternative vehicles

A recent increase in gas prices has spurred a rise in the number of alternative vehicles on Minnesota’s roadways.
International Falls Police Sgt. Willi Kostiuk said that officers are attempting to educate people about the laws regarding motorized bikes, also known as scooters, before they begin writing citations to violators of those laws.
Kostiuk said the laws are intended to help keep people safe.
“We want to work with everybody and education is the best way,” he said.

Two people were treated at Falls Memorial Hospital after their boat struck a rock early Sunday morning.


Medical emergency at Kettle Falls

A man was transported to Falls Memorial Hospital Aug. 5 with a head injury that occurred near Kettle Falls.
Voyageurs National Park staff received a report of a man needing medical assistance after falling from a dock at Kettle Falls. After park rangers portaged their boat across Kettle Falls, they responded to the scene in Hale Bay on the Rainy side of Kettle Falls.
While stepping off a dock, the man had fallen into his boat, causing him to hit his head, according to a VNP report.
