Aitken reception
The Borderland community is welcome to attend a “Farewell and Thank You” reception in honor of Beckie and Pastor Tom Aitken. The reception, hosted by Citizens for Backus/AB, is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Backus Community Center, Room 111. Everyone is welcome.

The Moose Lodge Potluck Picnic is planned for noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Smokey Bear Park. Meat and beverage will be provided.

Backus Community Market continues Saturday, rain or shine, from 8 to 11 a.m. in the AB Third Street parking lot. Fresh produce, baked goods, handmade and specialty products by local artisans and vendors are featured. Backus will provide coffee and bars. The public is encouraged to attend. Interested vendors may contact the Backus office at 285-7225.

‘Summer on the Border’
“Summer on the Border” is on stage at Backus Community Center Friday at 7 p.m. Director Beckie Aitken brings something for everyone from both sides of the Border — song, dance, comedy skits and storytelling. Admission is $10 for adults; $25 family, and $5 children 12 and under. Tickets are available at City Drug, Thrifty White Drug, Backus office and Betty's in Fort Frances. Tickets are also available at the door. Proceeds benefit Backus Auditorium improvements.

Stories in the Park on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in Smokey Bear Park will be in the library basement meeting room if the weather is wet. Plan on attending whether or not the weather allows participants to be outside. The storytime theme for the summer continues through Aug. 13.
Spaghetti dinner fund raiser
A Girl Scouts spaghetti dinner fund raiser for a trip to England is planned for 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Roadhouse, Hwy. 11 E. Free will offering will be accepted.

The purpose is to raise collective consciousness with a five-minute silent intention for peace within ourselves, our families, our community, our country and in our world. In case of inclement weather, the group will meet by the memorial inside the courthouse
