Falls Memorial Hospital added an important piece of equipment recently — a Fresh Frozen Plasma Freezer.
The Fresh Frozen Plasma contains all of the coagulation factors and proteins present in an original unit of blood. Surgeons use this vital liquid as a clotting agent, in the event of excess bleeding during surgery. It is also used in other medical treatments. The new freezer is equipped with a monitoring and alarm system which keeps the plasma at a steady -30 degree Celsius temperature. The freezer is located in the Falls Memorial Hospital Laboratory and can hold up to 75 units of fresh frozen plasma.
Falls Memorial Hospital acknowledges their dedicated Auxilians. Monies from two years of their fund raising efforts went toward the purchase of the freezer. The FMH Auxilians positively impact the hospital and its patients every day, and their continuous efforts are greatly appreciated.
