Alberts wins Hitter of the Week award
Rainy River’s Samantha Alberts earned MCAC Northern Division Hitter of the Week honors for her efforts last week (Week 8). The freshman posted a 4.4 kills per game average and tallied 43 digs in three matches.
“That’s a really nice honor,” RRCC coach Mel Millerbernd said. “There are a lot of good hitters in the league.”
Alberts is the second Voyageur to earn a weekly award as setter Monica McAllister won Setter of the Week in Week 7.

Voyageurs fall in season finale
Rainy River lost 3-1 Tuesday at home to Central Lakes in the season finale.
The Voyageurs took Game 1 26-24, but had little to celebrate over the final three games as the Raiders won 25-16, 25-17, 25-15.
Samantha Alberts led the attack with nine kills and 11 digs, Nicole Beckel added six kills and 12 digs and Mickaela Nogowski posted 17 digs. Sophomore Monica McAllister dished out 20 set assists in her final contest.
RRCC failed to make the postseason and finished 3-19 overall and 2-10 in the Northern Divison of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference. Central Lakes improves to 14-11 and to 9-3 and will advance.
“We have lots to look forward to next year,” Voyageurs coach Mel Millerbernd said.
Millerbernd will lose only three sophomores — McAllister, Tasha Johnson and Francis Horner — and another player to graduation — Kate Anderson — but should return a good core of athletes. Freshmen Whitney Taylorson, Carley Lake, Steph Valek, Beckel, Alberts and Nogowski all have a year of eligibility left.
