Broncos-Bluejackets football game still on after threats at Hibbing High School, By JIM JOHNSON, Sports Editor

The second threat of violence in a month at Hibbing High School has raised eyebrows and perked up authority figures, but it won’t cancel Friday’s Homecoming football game against International Falls.
The Broncos (1-5, 0-5) are scheduled to take on the Bluejackets (1-5, 0-5) at 7 p.m. Friday in Hibbing.
A threat of violence was found in the boys’ bathroom at Hibbing High School late last week and mentioned violence on Oct. 10, the same day as the football game, according to Hibbing principal Mike Finco.
The first threat was found in early Sept., and mentioned violence on Sept. 30, but the day passed without incident.
Finco couldn’t reveal exactly what the message said, due to an ongoing investigation, but he put it into perspective.
“Kid graffiti on the bathroom wall,” he said Tuesday afternoon. “You don’t think anything is going to happen, but you have to take everything seriously.”
There will be added security and school personnel at all of Hibbing’s Homecoming functions this week, and all the schools playing at Hibbing in athletic events have been contacted.
“We took precautions and nothing happened,” Finco said about the first threat. “We’ll take precautions again and hopefully nothing will happen.”
Finco and Hibbing Superintendent Robert Belluzo have also talked with Falls High School Superintendent Don Langan and athletic/activities director Don Rolando.
“Hibbing is taking all the precautions they can and we are confident their school officials and their law enforcement are taking care of the problem,” Rolando said.
“There school is in session. If they thought it was a real credible threat, they wouldn’t be in session.”
