Daniel Rugroden, 31, a former high school agriculture instructor from Wadena, has been selected as the new county extension agent for agriculture and 4-H by the University of Minnesota Extension office.
Spec. 4 David Hultman and Pfc. Darcy Ruport recently received the Army Achievement Medal for outstanding recruit support in the International Falls area.

Pfc. Douglas Frahm of the U.S. Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Frahm, is enjoying a furlough. At the end of his furlough he will go to California and from there to Vietnam.
City Drug swept honors in B League recreation softball this summer. Team members are Roger Deneen, Jim Skifstad, Dan Grover, Tom Johnson, Keith Sutherland, Bob Nelson, Mark Wold, Dennis Fisher, Duane Earnest, Robin Zoupas, Rick Johnson, Larry Connors and Roger Trott.
Miss Donna Buechler, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Leo H. Buechler, 1403 11th St., is one of the new Sigma Alpha Iota pledges from Mu Chapter at the University of North Dakota.
Mrs. W.B. Fulton, a resident of Falls Nursing Home, won a first prize and an honorable mention in the 1968 Duluth News Tribune recipe contest. Her first prize was for a recipe for fruited ice and the honorable mention was for bread and butter pickles.

Old Glory will boast another star next year to represent America’s newest and biggest state, Alaska. But where the star will be placed in the national flag has not been officially decided.
Third Street Playground youngsters took part in a doll show in connection with the playgrounds’ final week of activities. Paula Rousseau won first place for the best doll. Sister Peggy Rousseau won first in the bride doll class. Other winners were Nina Cole, Colleen Cole and Sarah Milette.
Tommy Morse and Bob Bateman, cogs in Butch Larson’s all-veteran backfield, may miss the Duluth Cathedral game here Friday night as a result of injuries incurred earlier this week.
President Eisenhower today signed a bill increasing Social Security benefits and taxes. The new law will provide bigger checks starting next February for 12 million retired workers and survivors. The increase will be 7 percent with a minimum of $3 a month.

Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Sweney, Island View Route, are parents of a 9-pound, 4-ounce son. They have named him Robert Patrick.
Marlys Pearson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Pearson, celebrated her 12th birthday Friday evening with an outdoor party and wiener roast at the Pearson summer home, Pine Villa, at Point O’Pines.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Jerome, Frederic Hotel, are parents of a daughter born Thursday. The child weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
A son was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lindvall, Oveson Building. The infant weighed an even 8 pounds.
