Former Bemidji State University hockey star and former Falls Recreation Commission Director Jim Thompson was inducted recently into Bemidji State University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Thompson died in 1996 of cancer and was inducted posthumously.
Marine Pfc. Jason A. Heinlen, son of Victor P. and Pamela G. Heinlen, is currently halfway through a six-month deployment to the western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked aboard the ships of the USS Essex Amphibious Group.

Greg Herzig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Manny Herzig, recently completed an internship in Nuclear Medicine Technology in the Mayo School of Health-Related Sciences.
Senior Homecoming royalty candidates are Rayette Olson, Tammy Moxley, Amanda LaGoo, Lisa Oustad, Maryjo Glowack, Jennifer Brekke, Jackie Knott, Martha Rischar, Jay Schulz, Joe Mann, Ed Bahr, Don Rolando, Mike Turenne and Hans Schumacher.

Miss Maybelle Stone, secretary to Local IV-33, CIO, was honored Sunday at a birthday party given in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Loman Route. A decorated cake, baked by Mrs. William Patterson, centered the serving table and Miss Stone was presented with gifts from the group of 30 friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. C.S. DeBoer received word from their son, Lt. William DeBoer, that he is now company executive officer. He has been out in the field since going to Vietnam last August. In August he was wounded in the foot twice and is all right now.
Marine PFC Jerry Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Sullivan, Cemetery Road, will embark Saturday for a 13-month tour of duty in Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bradley, 1309 Ninth St., announce the engagement of their daughter, JoAnn (Roberta) to Gerald R. Kockelman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kockelman, Island View Route.

50 YEARS AGO
An 11-pound, 2-ounce walleye entered in the Ace Store Big Fish Contest by Mrs. Laura Christianson won her the grand prize, an automatic shotgun, as the final day of the contest closed Wednesday.
Winners of the city tennis playoffs sponsored recently by the recreation commission are: Larry Minton, cadet singles champ; Tom Bergstedt, senior singles champ, and John Holt, junior singles champ.
Members of the newly-formed Falls High Bronco Cross Country team are Doug Plank, Jim Veeder, Jerry Steele, Keith Robbie, Jim Rundell, Dale Himes, Tom Frykman, Bruce Gawtry, Don Trott, Larry Stewart and George Hanson.
A post-nuptial miscellaneous shower was given in Ukrainian Hall for Mrs. Arnold Holmestad, nee Muriel Shortridge.

Mrs. Herbert Crotty entertained the “B-Y” Club at her Point O’Pines home. Whist winners were Mrs. Elwood Berg, Mrs. Ralph Tessier and Bernice Wilcox. Mrs. Pat Roche won the traveling prize.
BeBe Shopp, Miss America of 1948-49, today lent her royal elegance to the Fourth Annual Forest Festival. The nation’s number one beauty arrived in the Border City at noon today accompanied by her mother and chauffeur.
Gene G. Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Morgan, has been promoted from corporal to sergeant, a U.S. Air Force release stated today.
Kape Mapes, former immigration officer here, has been transferred back to his post on International Bridge.
