Gladys Blanchard, Bill Elliott and John Kalstad cut the ribbon during grand opening ceremonies at the newly expanded and redesigned 18-hole Falls Country Club Friday morning.
The third annual Boelk family reunion was held recently at McKinley Park on Lake Vermilion.

25 YEARS AGO
Sheila Perkins has been hired for women’s athletics at Rainy River Community College. She will teach physical education and coach women’s sports at Rainy River Community College this fall.
Fred Boeckh is retiring after 15 years of service as secretary of the International Falls Koochiching County Airport Commission.

40 YEARS AGO
A brilliant pitching performance by Danny Ysen earned a split of a doubleheader for International Falls’ VFW Jr. baseball team at Orr Wednesday.
Kim, Brian and Deseree Lindholm won top prize in the robot division of the Fourth of July celebration parade.
Paying a surprise visit this morning to Steve Museta, Journal linotype operator, was his Army buddy, Francis Murray, whom he had not seen since 1941.
Earl Bolin, Ray Severt, John J. Bartkowski and Clifford Carlson are seeking the new District 4 commissionship.

50 YEARS AGO
A daughter was born today at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Moxley, 8 pounds, 15 ounces.
Elizabeth Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Bergstrom, 503 Fourth Ave., was baptized Sunday in St. Thomas Catholic Church. Mr. and Mrs. Andre Gouin, Newport, Rainy Lake, the baby’s uncle and aunt, were sponsors.
Robert Miggins Jr., 811 Sixth St., is recuperating at his home from an injury sustained in Big Falls while playing ball.
Rev. John Malm, new pastor of First Lutheran Church, and his wife were honored at a reception Saturday evening in the church parlors by members and friends of the congregation.

60 YEARS AGO
General John J. “Blackjack” Pershing, who led American troops to victory in World War I, died early today at the age of 87.
Twelve friends helped Virginia Jackson celebrate her 12th birthday at a party Saturday in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Jackson, 1241 11th St.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Haining and children, 918 Eighth St., were planning to leave today for Brainerd. Haining recently resigned his position as manager of the Border Theater and intends to return to school. Haining’s successor is M.F. Justad.
Mrs. Woodrow Ewald was honored at a stork shower in the home of Mrs. James Ewald.
