Army Reserve Private Janet L. Tveit, daughter of Lorne E. and Marlys J. Tveit, has completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J.
Mike Katrin won the Falls Country Club championship Sunday with a score of 105, followed by Bob Nelson with 110 and Poncho Krantz 113.
40 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. James Cummings, Newport, Rainy Lake, will depart Tuesday for Fort Myers, Fla., where they will be buying a home and residing permanently. Their home in Newport has been sold to Bill Bruggeman.
Lynne DePaul is the new Falls Country Club women’s champion.
Larry Bye, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. James Phalen of the Falls, is at the Democratic convention in Chicago as a member of the staff of Sen. Eugene McCarthy.
Fr. Clarence Meile, who has served St. Columban’s Catholic Church for the past six years, and his aunt who is his house keeper, Mrs. Bea Lanquist, were honored at a farewell party in the church parlors.

The Falls post office’s newest innovation for speeding the mail is a snorkel mailbox which permits car drivers to deposit their letters without leaving their cars.
Mary Margaret Munch, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Munch Jr., 420 Fifth Ave., was baptized at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas Catholic Church.
The silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. William Borden Sr. was celebrated recently at a dinner at Belle Haven Resort.
Brian Toder took first prize at the 11th Street Playground party with his rendition of “Down a Lazy River.”
60 YEARS AGO
George Bruggeman, hottest thing under yesterday’s broiling 85 degree sun, fired a two over par, 110, for 27 holes to take possession of the medal Border Championship crown.
Gerald Mongrain and Robert Murray, former Falls High athletes, left for Duluth this week where they will attend the University of Minnesota branch school.
Gregory Selsaas, 505 Sixth St., and his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Selsaas, Ranier, will be off tomorrow on a three-month trip to Norway to visit relatives.
