Karen Garber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Garber, 713 Fifth Ave., a student in the nursing program at Hesston College, Hesston, Kan., received a maroon ribbon for her cap at the Maroon Ribbon Ceremony yesterday.
A shower honoring Mrs. Mike Kuryla and infant daughter Melissa was held in the parlors of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Machinist Mate Fireman Apprentice Ronald R. Romosz, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Romosz Sr. of 1802 Main Ave. E., is serving as a member of the pre-commissioning detail of the amphibious assault ship USS New Orleans at Norfolk, Va.
Ralph H. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph A. Miller, Island View Route, graduated from University of Minnesota Duluth in ceremonies Aug. 24. He received a bachelor of science degree with a major in English.

David Jon Melville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Melville, was baptized Thursday afternoon at their lake home.
Army Private Edward J. Bernath, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Bernath, Northome, recently arrived in Berlin and is now a member of the 6th Infantry’s Headquarters Company.
Donald Peter Villalta and Helen A. Fisher Williams received bachelor of science degrees at the August commencement exercises at Macalester College, St. Paul.

Mr. and Mrs. George Makidon, 717 Ninth St., are parents of a daughter born today at Falls Memorial Hospital. They have named the child Rose Marie.
Mrs. Almeda Kinney, a resident of International Falls for 43 years, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday. She would have been 88 Oct. 12.
Raymond Mathews celebrated his third birthday Saturday with a party at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. O.S. McKibben, South International Falls. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lonny Mathews.
Mrs. E.V. LeFear, 1006 Third St., was honored at a surprise dinner Saturday evening at Twin Elms on the occasion of her birthday. The party, arranged by members of the Flat Iron Club, continued after dinner at the home of Mrs. Mary Liebig, 413 Fifth St.
