Charlotte Porter, of Ray, graduated with a bachelor of science degree, with honors, in elementary education and Christopher Hogan, of Ranier, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in business administration at the conclusion of spring quarter at Bemidji State University.
Marissa K. Hanson will attend the University of St. Thomas in fall 1998. The 1998 Falls High School graduate received an $850 recognition scholarship.

25 YEARS AGO
Einar Sundin had the misfortune to fall from the hay mow at his home recently. He was taken to Falls Memorial Hospital and then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital.
There will be a baby shower for Celia Marie Palm Aug. 30, 7:30 p.m., Bethany Fellowship Hall, Loman.

40 YEARS AGO
A son was born Aug. 23 at Falls Memorial Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Einar Korpi.
Carol Toninato, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fulvio Toninato, Rainy Lake, was banded as a senior at Northwestern School of Nursing, Minneapolis, on Aug. 21.
Sgt. James Smart, USAF, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Smart, 521 Eighth St., is expected home on the 9 o’clock bus this evening. Sgt. Smart has been overseas 25 months, 12 of which were in Okinawa and 13 in Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Gustafson and daughter, Judy, are summer residents of Rainy Lake on the Camp Blackpoint Road. They live in the cabin of the late C.O. Gustafson, father of Oscar.

50 YEARS AGO
Paul Winger of Bemidji recently moved to International Falls. He will operate the body repair shop at Wherley Motor Sales.
A daughter was born yesterday to Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pierce, 604 10th St., Jane Elizabeth, 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
Miss Cynthia Torseth was honored at a personal shower Saturday evening at the home of Miss Janice Hafdahl, 913 Sixth St.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sutherland, 1117 Sixth St., announce the engagement of their daughter, Beverly Lois, to James Holenko.

60 YEARS AGO
The only baby born Aug. 23 was to Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Christenson, 617 Second St. The child weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
Charlene Agnes is the name chosen by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Anderson, 1326 Ninth Ave., for their daughter born Aug. 24. The child weighed 5 pounds, 5 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sam Carlson, 619 Eighth St., are parents of a daughter born today at Littlefork Hospital. The child weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Louiseau, 620 Ninth St., welcomed a daughter born today. She weighed an even 8 pounds.
