New addressing ordinance in place for Littlefork

According to the recently written Littlefork Ordinance No. 98, many residents in the city will soon be obliged to post or replace house numbers; and some hard-to-find city addresses will require the purchase of reflective signs.
For emergency purposes, all owners or occupants of residential, commercial or industrial structures within the city of Littlefork will now be required to display assigned address numbers which conform to the ordinance.

Results show positive outcomes from four-day school week

The Littlefork-Falls School Board listened with interest as Superintendent Fred Seybert reviewed with them Wednesday a power-point presentation regarding research on a four-day school week.
The board held its regular meeting in Big Falls.
The research comes from the MACCRAY school district in west-central Minnesota, the only district in the state approved by the Minnesota Department of Education to implement the shortened academic week, to begin in the 2008-2009 school year.


Littlefork discusses wetlands, ambulance, medical center, By FAYE WHITBECK, Staff Writer

On behalf of his company, Dave Serrano appeared before the Littlefork City Council Thursday to suggest that it coordinate a wetlands management plan with Arro of the North LLC.
Serrano told the council that it made sense to start looking at all of the city’s property for areas of suitable development; lands that could be converted to wetland conservation to offset the current delay in the industrial park project development; and other wetlands in the city that could be banked.


100 years for Littlefork Lutheran

Pioneers in faith, yesterday, today and forever

Bells ringing, feeding the masses, people dancing, worshiping together, and parading around town — all in celebration of 100 years.
Littlefork Lutheran Church celebrated 100 years of ministry last Saturday and Sunday. The celebration began in the morning as members, both past and present, gathered at the church building. There they joined in fellowship with rolls and coffee, as well as stories and pictures. Tours were available for those who had not seen the new church facility, built in 2003.


Surveyor to present wetlands review in Littlefork, By FAYE WHITBECK, Staff Writer

The Littlefork City Council is scheduled to hear a review of wetlands, to be presented by Dave Serrano, it meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at Littlefork City Hall.
Serrano, proprietor of the company Arrow of the North LLC, requested the scheduled appearance before the council.


L-BF school board to meet in Big Falls Wednesday

The Littlefork-Big Falls School Board is slated to accept the resignations of two staff members when it meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Big Falls City Clerk’s Office.
On the agenda for approval is the resignation of half-time social studies teacher Jeff Raboin as well as that of cheerleader advisor, Teresa Rom. Amos McKenzie is expected to be approved as the assistant boys basketball coach.
The Truth in Taxation dates are scheduled to be set.
Topics planned for discussion are alternative calendar options and the National Honor Society.


Littlefork parade and celebration Saturday

Littlefork Lutheran Church will celebrate 100 years on Saturday with an 80-unit parade down Littlefork’s Main Street.
The parade begins at 5 p.m. with 100-year-old church member, Sadie Running, as Grand Marshall.
The Lutheran centennial event begins earlier in the day, at 10 a.m., with a tour of the church and historical records. Complimentary rolls and coffee will be served.
A worship service to open the festivities is scheduled for 1 p.m. with a dedication of the church bell to follow. An afternoon of fellowship will precede the parade.


Littlefork City Council approves ambulance service budget

The Littlefork City Council approved Thursday the proposed 2009 Ambulance Service Budget and the 2008 collectible 2009 Tax Levy in the amount of $46,000.
The Littlefork Ambulance Service Taxing District Board of Directors met Tuesday and adopted the proposal which they presented to the council for approval Thursday.


Littlefork City Council assesses wind damage, By FAYE WHITBECK, Staff Writer

Littlefork City Council assessed at its Thursday meeting the wind damage from the July 11 storm that ripped through the town.
The worst destruction was the uprooting and breaking of some of the city’s oldest trees, reported Mike Fairchild, city administrator. Insurance will cover the removal of what remains of several trees, he added.
“Some of those trees were 70 to 150 years old,” said Fairchild. But the downing of others helped open up camp grounds in the area. “We start fresh there, and see how we can improve it,” he noted.


Littlefork taxing district meeting scheduled for Tuesday

The Littlefork City Council has scheduled the annual meeting of the Littlefork Ambulance Taxing District Board of Directors for Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to adopt the proposed 2009 ambulance service budget and the 2008 collectible 2009 tax levy.
The meeting at the Littlefork Community Building on Main Street is open to the public.
