TruStar Federal Credit Union announced Aug. 18 that David Cronin was appointed chief financial officer, a senior management team leadership position that oversees asset and liability management, investment, financial analysis, accounting and reporting functions for all branches.
Cronin will oversee $118 million in assets of TruStar’s 11,250 members in International Falls, Big Falls, Park Rapids, and Menahga credit unions and surrounding community branch locations.
“With his unique combination of financial acumen, civic service and his many business and social contacts, Dave is an outstanding addition to our team,” noted TruStar President and CEO Dale Johnson. “Dave is a well-respected member of our community with wide-ranging financial experience and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with our management group.”
“I’m happy to join the TruStar team, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of a different occupation,” said Cronin. “I feel fortunate to have a new and exciting opportunity at this stage of my life, and to be given a chance to work for a vibrant and growing organization. TruStar as a financial institution is known for taking on new challenges itself, and so I feel that it is an excellent fit for me.”
Cronin was raised and attended schools in Thompson, N.D., near Grand Forks, and graduated from Thompson High School in 1976. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 1980.
While working as a staff accountant with Drees, Riskey & Nordell Accounting in Grand Forks, Cronin completed study for his certified public account license and passed the North Dakota exam in 1983. He received a Minnesota CPA title in 1987, after moving the Falls to become office manager for Miller McDonald, Inc. He was promoted to partner of the firm in 2001.
To prepare for the CFO position, Cronin completed continuing education courses in the Twin Cities centering on the chief financial officer function.
“I’m most excited that I was able to shift directions in my career without leaving a wonderful place which has become our home,” Dave continued. “International Falls has been really good to us.”
Cronin is a past president and board member of the Falls Rotary Club. He was named the first Rotarian of the Year in 2007. He is the current treasurer of Elks Lodge 1599, and the longest serving current board member of the Falls Country Club.
Cronin and his wife, Nancy, reside in Meadowview and have two grown children and a four-year-old granddaughter. In his spare time, Cronin enjoys golf, fishing and spending time on Rainy Lake with his family.
