Missing library items
Mistakenly taken from the International Falls Public Library Book Sale June 26 was a bag of checked out items from the library. Included were books, DVDs and tape books. Anyone who may have picked up this bag may call 283-9209 or return to the library.
Class of 1941
Falls High School Class of 1941 will gather for a noon luncheon Wednesday at the Holiday Inn.
Stories in the Park
Stories in the Park on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in Smokey Bear Park will be in the library basement meeting room if the weather is wet. Plan on attending whether or not the weather allows participants to be outside. The storytime theme for the summer continues through Aug. 13.
Moped course
Rainy River Community College is offering a Moped Safety Course from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 1. Individuals without a driver’s license who are 15 years or older can obtain a moped permit by taking this course, then passing a knowledge test and skills test at the state exam center (located at the corner of Second Avenue and Fourth Street). Cost of the course is $25. Call 285-2255 for more information or to register.
Quilt guild
Whispering Pines Quilt Guild will meet Thursday in Room 200 of Evangelical Covenant Church (use door A on south side of the building to enter church.) Sewing will begin at 6 p.m. with the guild meeting will be at 7. Participants may come when possible. Work will begin on the Brown Bag Quilt project. Quilters are reminded to wear a nametag, bring a fat quarter of patriotic or baby theme fabric for the drawing and bring two rainbow blocks that were demonstrated at the last meeting if they wish to take part in the block exchange. Show and Tell items are always welcome. All area quilters of any level of experience are welcome to attend.
Gaming Night
International Falls Public Library will host a Gaming Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Any and all teens (entering grades 7 and above) are welcome to play games and talk with friends in the basement meeting room of the library. We have Guitar Hero, Rock Band, NFL and NCAA football, a couple of driving games, a flying game as well as Dance Dance Revolution. Board games and a display of new books will also be featured. Casino bus
A bus to Fortune Bay Casino is planned for July 21. Cost is $14. Anyone wishing to participate may call Barb at 285-3663 or Sandy, 283-3460.
Aluminum can drive
The Bronco Volleyball Aluminum Can Drive is now underway and will run through October. The can trailer can be found in the Dairy Queen parking lot.
‘Celebrate Recovery’
We’ve all been hurt by other people, we’ve hurt ourselves, and we’ve hurt others. As a result, every single one of us ends up with some sort of hurt, hang-up or habit. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-based, 12-step program and the group meets every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church. Everyone is welcome.
Phone recycling
Borderland Humane Society is currently participating in a cell phone recycling program. By recycling old cell phones, the humane society can receive money for the old phones, with all proceeds going to BHS. The community is urged to help by donating phones to help animals in need. Phones may be dropped off at The Daily Journal, Radio Shack or K-104/KGHS Radio Station. Anyone with questions may call 218-324-2313.
The Lamplighters
The Lamplighters, an on-going women’s support group for survivors of incest and/or childhood sexual abuse, will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the Sunrise Center Against Sexual Abuse, 203 Third St. Facilitator is Pam Bechik, MA in Psychology. A light meal will be provided by Domino’s Pizza prior to each group meeting. Pre-register by calling 283-9334.

Open horseshoes
Men, women and teenagers are welcome to play open horseshoes from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Kerry Park. No experience is necessary.
Moose supper
The Moose Lodge will serve a chicken ala king supper at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Elks supper
The Elks Lodge Wednesday Meal will be hand-breaded jumbo shrimp. Servings will begin at 6:30 p.m. Call early for reservations, 283-3440.
Concert in the Park
The Wednesday Concert in Smokey Bear Park will feature two teens bands, “The Planets” from Falls High School and “Embassy” from Fort Frances. Each will play 45 minutes, beginning at 7 p.m. International Falls Public Library Librarian Diane Adams will present story hour beginning at 6.
