Amdahl ready to lead Voyageurs women, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

The compressor is off and the ice will not be ready at Bronco Arena for over two months, but new Rainy River Community College Voyageurs women’s hockey coach Evan Amdahl is busy preparing for the season.
Amdahl is a health and physical education teacher at RRCC and will be the fourth head coach in the program’s three year history and takes over a Voyageurs team that finished last season as National Champions.
“I’m taking over a National Championship team, it’s pretty exciting,” Amdahl said. “We have a good core of girls coming back from last year.”


RRCC softball season ends

The Rainy River Community College softball team wrapped up their season at the Minnesota Community College Conference State Tournament in St. Cloud.
The Voyageurs went 1-2 in the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Riverland Community College and a 9-7 loss to Ridgewater Community College and a 10-5 loss Fergus Falls Community College.
After the tournament RRCC was tied with the Northland Community College Pioneers for the right to play Central Lakes for an NJCAA Tournament berth.
The Pioneers dominated the play-in game winning 8-0, ending Rainy’s season.


Voyageurs wrap regular season with sweep, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

HIBBING — After many phone calls and some schedule changes, the Rainy River Community College softball team played their final doubleheader of the season on Tuesday afternoon as the team faced off with the Hibbing Community College Cardinals in Hibbing.
RRCC swept the games winning game one 12-1 in five innings and game two 8-6.
“It’s a good way to finish the regular season,” Voyageurs head coach Dieter Humbert said.
The Voyageurs dominated game one setting the pace with seven runs in top of the first inning. RRCC did not let up adding five more runs en route to the 12-1 victory.


Voyageurs run winning streak to eight games, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

Coming off of a pair of home sweeps this past weekend, the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs softball team won their seventh and eighth games in a row with a sweep of the Northland Community College Pioneers here Tuesday afternoon.
RRCC won each game in the bottom of the seventh inning taking game one 7-6 and game two 10-9.
"A couple of big wins, they are definitely character builders," Voyageurs head coach Dieter Humbert said.
The Voyageurs and the Pioneers battled in game one with neither team able to establish a large lead.


Two Voyageurs earn player of the week, By JOE KRAUSE, Sports Editor

Although they have only been outdoors for a couple of practices this season, Rainy River Community College freshmen Amanda Clark and Megan Pinette must be doing something right. The Voyageurs power hitting duo have each been named Minnesota Community College Conference Northern Division Player of the Week.


Voyageurs open home season with sweep of Vikings

Using a balanced hitting attack and taking advantage of opportunities, the Rainy River Community College Women’s Softball team swept a pair of games from Itasca Community College 8-0 and 6-5 in games played Saturday at the Rainy River softball field.


Voyageurs sweep conference games with Mesabi

The Rainy River Voyageurs women’s softball team continued their climb in the Northern Division with 12-4 and 9-3 wins over Mesabi Range Community College Sunday afternoon at the Rainy River softball field.
Despite the cool weather and windy conditions, Mesabi coach Dan Zbosnik was happy to play the games. “Outside of scrimmages in twin cities domes, this is our first game of the year,” he said shortly before the opening pitch. “Up until now, our games have been either rained or snowed out,” he said.


Voyageurs split with Pioneers

The Rainy River Community College Voyageurs softball team split a pair of one-run games with the Northland Community College Pioneers Monday afternoon in Thief River Falls.
Megan Pinette led the Voyageurs at the plate going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI as the Voyageurs defeated the Pioneers 7-6.
Jenn Falk picked the win on the mound striking out 15 batters, giving up eight hits and walking one. Other offensive contributors included Tasha Johnson who went 2-for-2 with one RBI while Jamie Janshen added an RBI.
The Pioneers picked up the win in game two downing RRCC 6-5.


Raiders too much for Voyageurs

The Rainy River Community College Voyageurs softball team traveled to Brainerd for a pair of games with the Central Lakes Community College Raiders on Wednesday afternoon.
The more experienced Raiders downed the Voyageurs 12-4 and 10-2 for the double-header sweep.
"They are a very talented team and have more experience than us having taken a southern trip to Florida, they seem to be more polished at this point," Voyageurs head coach Dieter Humbert said. "We had too many errors and not strong pitching."


Voyageurs sweep road double-header

Megan Pinette provided the offense as the Rainy River Community College Voyageurs softball team rebounded from a 1-and-3 start to the season with a two-game sweep of the Itasca Community College Vikings Saturday afternoon in Grand Rapids.
Pinette was perfect at the plate going 6-for-6 with four homeruns and two doubles and driving in seven runs. Pinette’s performance earned her a nomination for Minnesota Community College Conference player of the week.
"Megan (Pinette) had an unbelievable day," Voyageurs head coach Dieter Humbert said.
