The $50,000 won't even pay Nevanen's salary. Hope the weather is nice and cold this winter so they can make it through the year.

LOL, thanks Kay! :) Most of my points actually came from my better half, so maybe he should run! ;)

Maybe we can talk Roj into coming back up to campaign! Although I don't think he could handle our winters, South Carolina may have made him soft. (heehee)

Have you ever thought of running for mayor. I think you are young and would bring fresh new ideas to the table. Give it some thought. You would be GREAT!!!

Well its about time. Its a good thing it is an election year. I don't think anything will come of this anouncement but who knows. Will the $50,000.00 combined money for KEDA be enough to pay the salary of of the employees?

Okay I am in agreement, I

Okay I am in agreement, I don't think I Falls needs a consulting company coming in anyways, what the mayor needs to do is listen to the citizens (the ones still there) and go from there. I don't mean the power wheeling old fart from Boise either, the city of Int'l Falls has allowed certain parties to make life altering changes for that city for two long. I believe some would refer to the Big B as the norths version of the MOB. and it looks like they have slit the wrist of that city. Im thinking every person who truly wants new blood in office will get out to vote. I loved the trips down memory lane, it showed a city thriving and growing, I met a person who lived in the Area when South Falls was called Holler anyone else remember that???

LMAO - I love your comments

LMAO - I love your comments Roj!

In regards to the "outside agency" I just have to make a couple points -
1. They basically keep a data base that business expansion ppl/site selectors pay money to get the top 5 or so locations for what they are looking for. (I worked in economic development as my first professional job in Sioux City, Iowa and worked with many companies that do this type of business.)
2. If we don't have the infastructure to support a business expansion, it doesn't matter what this Texas company does for us - we won't ever be in the top 5, 10, 15 or 20 locations that their database spits out.
3. Why aren't we looking at helping local businesses grow and stay here as well??? (cough, CH Consulting, cough, Thrifty White, cough)
4. And why are we going with one company that they picked out versus getting 3 to present to the city council and going from there? The company chosen was picked by the mayor from two that made presentations to KEDA; shouldn't we get more options on the table before making a decision?

I feel as though many of our leaders are in panic mode and not thinking these ideas completely through. It's great to want to attract businesses to our area, but don't we need to get ready for them first? You can't hitch your camper up if there is no place to do so.

A campground on Rainy Lake

A campground on Rainy Lake would go a long way toward attracting tourists. Many don't want to stay at a resort or in town at a motel (where you risk having all your stuff stolen).

If I spend the extra money to travel to the Falls, I want an option for my accommodations. The Falls has done too much to protect resorters and motel owners. This same newspaper thinks that wireless Internet shouldn't be available. It's time to wake up. You're not Old Town Gold Town. People need a reason to come to the Falls and the area is shooting itself in the foot by not providing it.

Clearly Clark's Park and the KOA on Tilson were failed enterprises. The Park Service could go a long way by creating a campground by the center on the lake.

curious curt,
First of all,

curious curt,

First of all, you must have a kayak (not a boat), and then you can paddle your A$$ off to one of four "green space" camping spots within the park. You probably could park your camper in one of the few "worn out" resorts that surround the perimeter of the VNP. I am so tired of hearing about wetlands!! Just another way for a few jerks to make money off the citizens and protect some chosen land for their future use! I say, fill in the wetlands, and build a Disney World "North", or maybe a mega-mall. I can't wait to see how well this "outside" agency does, when it comes up against the old "fart" from Boise, who "has the power!!

In addition, the Journals

In addition, the Journals continued incorrect belief in "who" this areas largest employer is is still incorrect. The Government, to include the city, county, state and Federal governments are the biggest employer in this area and as such they should have the greatest amount of attention given to them rather then the pittance of a small business that exists on the river in old broken brick and steel buildings in which essentialy "all" of there income leaves our town and our state. There are three times the number of military retirees in the area then the total number of plant employees and the income of the lesser number of federal workers in the area exceeds the income of all the plant workers combined. We have yet to consider the city and county workers and several other agencies in the area. If you had a choice then you run the numbers and see what would cost you more... loss of the few workers in the plant or loss of the government workers. Every worker in the plant is working to buy food for the table for sure but most of there effort is to enrichen the pockets of a fewer amount of bankers and investors someplace else with no meaningful amount of monies staying here as in the Mando days. Of course Mando went bankrupt, twice. Actually, only the redefined laws and ingenuity of bookeepers have kept Boise out of the same club.

I know this has been brought up MANY times - BUT - If I wanted to bring my camper and camp at the lake and enjoy boating and fishing with my family....................... I would go where to find this nice, lake side camping area/resort/cabins ?????

You have this huge lake AND National Park and not one place to camp !

I know - I know - you don't want tourist....

How about asking for accountability from the elected officials and school administrators?

Stick with the chicken dinner news. Your credibility takes a long walk when you hang "Opinion" on top of your euphoric Thumbs editorials.
