I watched, with much interest and enthusiasm, the entire DNC events, and could not help but be enthused by the various speeches rendered upon us voters for our next president and VP. Having spent a rather large number of years in the DC area and having some knowledge of how things work and don't work in our Federal Executive Branch, there could be no doubt as to vim and vigor which Obamma has entertained to his election.
I predict that there will be an overwhelming victory by the Democrats this year in this election by something like 65% to 70% approval rating for Obamma and a very embarrassing loss by John McCain andthe Republicans already know it.
Register and vote for your person but Obamma will win by a landslide.

Back to page topAnton, I think you may be a bit overly enthusiastic re Obama in predicting a 65 to 70% return. The McCain VP choice sets up a whole new ballgame. As an independent, albeit right of center, I appreciate the dramatic energy injected into the Republican camp. I think you're wrong about the size of victory, but could very well be right about the winner. It's now a very interesting race in that the winning duo will be historic.

Back to page topAnton, I heard Obama's speech and let me tell you what I understand from it. He has promoted the same tired policies of the Democrats, tax and spend, tax and spend. He does not give detailed plans for how he's going to accomplish the things he proposes to bring upon the american society. I for one do not trust him, nor will I until he can explain how he intends to bring about the promises he has been making wholesale. I too know something of how the government works, more importantly I can see through all the red herrings, and smoke screens he uses to distract the public from seeing what he is really promoting, which is democratic politics as usual.

Back to page topLOOK OUT!! Anton's making (and drinking) the blueberry moonshine, AGAIN!! You would think with his Daniel Boone backwards hunting and trapping logic, he would fall "lockstep" in with McCain's woman! She even owns and flies a floatplane! Anybody who could fall for the BS Mr Obama is putting out, has to be either into recreational drug use or drinking some home made brew!! Look very close and you can see the strings attached to the "half & half" candidate! He's no more a black candidate, than the Iltus Indian. Heck, he don't even have any "slave blood" in him!! Well maybe the State of Minnehaha, will fall for his rhetoric, since they already have a Muslim in Office. And good ole Joe Biden is up there on stage pretending to love every minute with Obama. He should be put in for an Oscar, at the least. You know he resents the fact that it is not him in the #1 spot, and he has to take a 2nd bananna role to the man with the Kenya roots. You Demonrats timed the Hurricane just right, though! But McCain and his #2 will fly in on her float plane, and roll up their sleeves, and show the country they can take charge. The heck with a big drunk fest in St Paul...., let's skip that and start to work on the gulf coast. I think with McCain's pick of a woman for #2, it will turn Minnesota into a "red state" this time around. Obama may give y'all a new motto, "the land of 10,000 votes"!! I'm currently up in the hills of Tennessee, and I was just at the Elks Club, and could not find an Obama voter in the whole crowd. Go figure!!

Back to page topsker,
So, from your comments, I take it that possibly you are a relative of the "I-Falls" MSP Airport hero who entrapped the poor ole Senator from Idaho. Right so far?? Sorry to disappoint you, but I got a life when I move from the Falls, 38 years ago. It is obvious that you "left wingers" are worried about The Chosen One "Obama" losing in Nov, and can't let us have a little levity on here. I will attempt to get a life just for you, if you promise to cut us bloggers a little slack on here!!

Back to page topsker, right on... took the words right out of my mouth. Obviously, roj2000 has not moved away from the Falls - he spends most of his waking hours blogging on this site - and dreaming of moving back here. If he could just keep to the point and not show his phobias so much he might be contributing something useful to this site.

Back to page topIf by the rare chance that John McCain wins the presidency, then there will be no doubt that the election was fixed by powers greater than the voting public. Al Gore was robbed by the Supreme Court in 2000 and they all should still be doing time in a federal prison for that one, and John Kerry was robbed of votes in Ohio with another election day malfunction of voting machines. With the rampant intimidation and Gestapo like tactics of the last eight years of Republican rule, really just lining their already grubby full of cash pockets, we can all breathe a sigh of relief if Barack Hussein Obama becomes the 44th President of these United States. If you don't trust him, then move to Canada, they have an excellent health care program. LOL!

Good to hear from ya, ole buddy!! I hear your wife is a big fan of the Canadian Socialist health care plan. Too bad she moved over to "our Country"!! LOL.... So, we (GOP) cheated huh? Like they say down South here in Dixie, "if you're not cheating, you're not trying"! I don't hear you Liberals yelling about all the dead people who cast votes in Illinois for JFK, when Big Joe Kennedy and the Mafia put the fix on Nixon. Isn't it funny how history repeats itself, such as the young protesters at the conventions trying to be dope smoking freaks like their grandparents of the 1960's? Or how Barak "Jimmy Carter" Obama, wants to be like the peanut farmer of 1976. Yes, indeed, the whole mess just runs around in big circles. Repeating itself, over and over again!! If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the Elvis impersonators would be dead. And all of the Economics Professors would be running the country and growing the economy and we all would be rich, etc.... This is going to be a very fun two months before the election. Keep in touch.

Back to page topBoy did I draw some old names out of the woodwork with my entries!! I love it when Liberals get scared during the Elections, and have trouble handling the truth. Go ahead and gang up on me, I'm ready for ya!!
The truth? The truth about...
Back to page topThe truth? The truth about the most cynical and short-sighted vice presidential nomination since Dan Quayle? When we are dealing with retros, when has truth ever come into the discussion? Karl Rove has never seemed like a truth-teller to me. Joe Lieberman is but he is the wrong kind of truth-teller -- the Paul Wellstone kind. They don't play well with the so-called evangelicals because these gun-fearing, Bible-toting types know exactly what they want and it's Helen Miers or Sarah Palin or whatever she calls herself. So give us the truth, Mr. 2000, but lay it on real thin. We can only take so much Republican truth; in the hands of liars, the truth becomes a weapon of mass deconstruction. Or something like that.
Wow, ROJ2000, the Liberals...
Back to page topWow, ROJ2000, the Liberals get downright vicious when the pressure is on, don't they?
TLJ, you're flying pretty loose with the heavy-handed accusations and rhetoric, aren't you? You don't really want to get into a contest over who stretches the truth more (Democrats or Republicans) do you?

RJ1127, Have you ever...
Back to page topRJ1127,
Have you ever watched the GOP & Dem Strategists on the talking head shows? In less than five seconds you can pick out the liberal. They have a very forced smile, that say's they are really trying to keep calm, and all the while their fangs start to come out, little by little. Then they start to foam at the mouth, and spit venom, while praising the virtues of "The Chosen One"!! But, the jury is still out on Professor Thomas, on whether or not he sticks to the middle of the road, or leans heavily to the left! But, by Profession, he is almost required to be "left leaning"! Nothing he can do about that. Just part of the job description, I guess. You see, he is really for the little people, and therefore, when Mr Obama, comes after his "high income" for more tax money/re-distribution to the poor, he will not complain. So, go easy on the "old man", because he joined the "60 plus" club in May, and deserves a "senior discount" on our "Right Wing" jabs. LOL
RJ, I want exactly to have...
Back to page topRJ, I want exactly to have this discussion. I am such a moderate that elections are often more about who is likely to tell the truth than who claims he will end Roe v. Wade or bring ablout national health insurance. Those things are usually lies to get elected.
I, for one, watched the convention appearance of George Herbert Walker Bush last night as he is my favorite living current or past president. And one of only two successful candidates I have ever voted for. That means I didn't vote for the lyin' Bill Clinton, largely because he was running against the boring but truthing Bob Dole and Jack Kemp. I loved Paul Wellstone because he never lied about being a liberal [Economist called him the last liberal] even when the lying and cheating Newt Gignrich was creating the right wing contract with American business.
Truth telling is an important concept that America has lost in the shuffle of our last two Baby Boomer Presidents. I sense that McCain is a truth teller and I am pretty sure that Obama is too. But this Sarah Palin is already telling a whopper when she says she turned back to the feds the money for the so-called bridge to nowhere. She told the people of Ketchikan that she supported the bridge, which is to their airport, apparently, and then changed only after it became a bigger than Alaska issue. Once you start telling lies, you get trapped into the web they create. And it isn't just people like Larry Craig and Mark Foley and Duke Cunningham and George Bush and Scooter Libby that tell lies. Because Bill Clinton did too and it hurt him forever.
Enough for today.
TLJ, I agree that the...
Back to page topTLJ, I agree that the benefit of a calm and orderly discussion of sensitive issues is very beneficial and desired. We both may be rather centrist.
However, I do feel that your inflammatory adjectives like "the lying and cheating" in describing Newt Gingrich are a prime example of stepping away from 'calm and orderly' and unnecessary, unless of course your prime objective is to denigrate and jab the person. Lying and cheating could be applied to probably hundreds (at least) of politicians. Openly questioning their decisions and objectives without inserting flaming accusatory arrows in the sentence is quite different, isn't it?

Regardless, we are all defying the Constitution so many of us swore to protect, BEFORE we swore to protect the chain of command. We now have no 4th Amendment, a 150+ page addendum to the 2nd, "free speech zones" for free speech, and during all of this, the President answers no questions.
We are all traitors. Long live jungle law.

Back to page topDo you know the differance between a Bulldog and a hockey mom? Lipstick.. Ha ha ha!! I been thinking about that all week and I do have to admit it is a clever but simplistic one liner. I would have used such a one liner myself, given the opportunity, but its not quite true. A bulldog has hair on its chest, something I am not sure the McCain running mate has. I am not at all qualified to ascertain that fact and I am to afraid to ask Todd, her husband, the question. I will just make it an unqualified assumption, "the McCain running mate has no hair on her chest", end of quote! I like her style and would not mind her lifting my nets when it is bad weather and cold on the lake but acting as President in the event the "big" guy can't perform his duties, not today is what I say.

Back to page topI don't know 65, you know how trying and dangerous it is pulling nets from Rainy in bad weather, it is a little tougher in Alaska. I know you know it takes guts to do that kind of work, and I have never met a stupid or inept commercial fisherperson yet. I know she's not liberal but she has showed no fear yet. That isn't everything but it is a start for what is needed in case there are people out there with three names, first, middle and last.

Mayor Mason has more experience than Barak (Hussein) "Apollo Creed - The Chosen One" Obama!! It is so sad, that this (Obama) is the BEST the Demonrats can find!!
I too, have enjoyed the...
Back to page topI too, have enjoyed the various blogs made by the various astute and capable writers. Factual, courteous, to the point and with arguments well made and logical, even intellectual comments that were very well worded and organized. I even wish I were capable of being able to "keep up" with all the previous writers.
In the end, for myself, I am limited to only a few
things to actually concern myself with. Am I cold, am I hungrey, am I always broke and do I feel safe and secure. I always seem to feel the need to want to relate to these things "at my level" not on the National or International level. I guess its just the way I am, well traveled, moderately educated but just a simple country boy inside. For me its just the simple country boy inside that counts the most. Like one writer has said, I am thinking about how much firewood to barter for 100 pounds of smoked whitefish and not doing to much thinking on all these other "worldly" matters. Not that these other matters are not important to somebody or to the world, when the rubber meets the road, they just are not at the top of my list of things to control what I want for my fish in International Falls, Minnesota. After all, I just live in a shack built in 1904, in a small town in northern Minnesota and in the cold of winter up here, I have somewhat limited abilities to control the on-slaught of Mother Nature.
You folks have aptly put it in better verbage then myself... the choice is a "senior citizen with an Alaskan moose hunter for an assistant" or a "very inexpierenced" gentleman from the south side of Chicago with an assisrtant that has an extremly ambitious ego that controls his every thought and action. You choose what makes you feel warm and cozy, a nice man who barely has reached manhood, to run the country, or a senior citizen with a military career and a long history of Federal, National and Internation expierence. For me, being a country boy, the choice is easy. Anybody that can gut a moose and lift nets and feel comfortable with a Nam POW, counts more then a guy who sells cell phones and runs around with a guy who's only expierence is as an alderman from the "south ward" of Chicago. I swear, I don't know much, but there is not one drop of oil to be found in the cambrian or pre-cambrian rock formations of the area so oil is not my big concern, except for its transportaion up here in the dead of winter from someplace else. We already get our natuaral gas from Alberta so as long as it keeps on coming, I am happy. If it does not keep on coming, then you all are going to pay me more wood for my fish.
P.S. I am building a bridge to no-where also. It will go from Kabetogama to Rainy Lake. Well thats almost to nowhere! I know, I know, its just "pork barrel" spending but you all will be able to get your whitefish faster and with the local economy as it is, the construction of this bridge will help our locals meet the challenges of heating their homes and feeding their families this winter, so what difference does it matter that the idiots that prefer to live in New Orleans are complaining about our good fortune???

Back to page topAnton,
Very well put!! The way you explained it, I think John McCain will run away with the election! But, I think the Demonrats, are running scared, and I predict that they will dump poor ole Joe Biden (he even admitted it the other night), and will put Hillary on the ticket. Just when you thought they couldn't get any lower, they try to trump us once again! Why can't they just do like the GOP and steal the election. Much easier that way! By the way, do you eat all of the whitefish livers yourself? What I wouldn't give for a plate of fried livers! By the way, you already have a "bridge to nowhere" in the Falls area. You cross it every time you go to Ft. Frances!!
False modesty will get you...
Back to page topFalse modesty will get you nowhere Mr. City-slicker. If all it takes is the ability to gut a moose, you should be on someone's national ticket. Last time I looked, Ron Paul was looking for a running mate. Of course, in the vetting process, it would come out that your gutting prowess included a poke in the eye with a very sharp knife at a very young age.
In any case, we are talking about amateur hour when we get to American politics and this will turn out to be the amateur hour of all amateur hours. Time for me to start thinking about returning to the country Angela Merkel is running. Competently. And roj, she happens to be a pro-business pro-American conservative, who, like the rest of us, is wondering whatever would cause Americans to return a party as disastrous as that of GWB to the White House. Easy answer: we are looking for an old man and a woman from the sticks who barks like a dog -- in lipstick. So there you have it, my intellectual take on the election of 2008, the worst one since 1972. The sort of election where there will only be losers.
TLJ, I have to agree with...
Back to page topTLJ,
I have to agree with you on Ms Merkel of Germany. She is doing great with that country. Maybe she has a cousin that can come live in the Falls and save it?? But the other question is, can she take down a moose and gut it? Have you ever watched ole GWB when he gets around her. He can't keep his hands off her!! Surprised he has any energy left after flying across the ocean on AF1 with Condi. You keep saying GW is so bad. Too bad you won't live long enough (I hope you do) to see the ultimate legacy that GW leaves. All I heard was "wah, wah" when Reagan was in Office, and now they are chipping away at the rock on Mt Rushmore. It's amazing what a difference a couple of decades makes on the history books. Look at Truman's poll numbers when he left Office. Now he's the hero who ended the "big one"!
When it comes to...
Back to page topWhen it comes to presidential reputations, there are some who do great things out of the office that enhance their reputations in office -- John Quincy Adams, for example. The Mt. Rushmore four were great presidents in office. Reagan was a solid president but he is given credit for things that actually happened during the time of his successor, Bush 41. The first Gulf War, which wasn't a six year quagmire and the end of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany -- Merkel would be an East German without re-unification. Your W will go down in history as a very unpopular President who was an ineffective leader and a terrible statesman who lost control of the federal budget and left a legacy of mediocrity. And I have a hard time imagining that he will be some sort of respected senior statesman in his post-presidency. He'll be on the ranch clearing brush and building that library in Austin to house his one-page briefs and comic book collection. As the lasting memory of Roosevelt is the fireside chat, the lasting image of Bush may well be his tongue-tied silence in that Florida school on September 11, 2001. Sad picture.
TLJ, If it wasn't against...
Back to page topTLJ,
If it wasn't against your religion, I would take a bet on your prognostications! How about Jimmy Carter? He was just as lousy in Office, as out of it. You talk about tounge tied!! You say Bush had the look of shock? Well Jimmy Carter was speechless for 444 days!! Remember the hostage crisis? He handled that extremely well!! But, Ronald Reagan got that straight. Of course he may have had to do a few deals under the table. But, I see the world looking at John McCain, just as the Idiot Iranians did Reagan during the hostage crisis. I feel that these world situations are just like the economic ones. Someone gets the ball rolling; ie- Reagan to Bush (world situations), and Bush 41 to Clinton (the economy). Last time I checked, these situations don't get better or worse, overnight!! And speaking of leaving people tongue-tied, isn't that what Slick Willie did to someone's daughter in the "Oral Office"?? Talk about leaving a stain on an administration. Remember how they talked trash about Truman for decades? But now the history books treat him rather nice (last time I checked). By the way, I think you and GW have a thing for Ms Merkel!! GW must be a real stud. You know those tough guys, "no brains"........

Back to page topOkay, enough! Enough! Joe Biden will decide to bow out as the veep canadate. Hillary will replace him. The 2008 presidential race will actually be between Palin and Clinton. If this happens, Obamabinladen will take the White House. He will not be the pres for long though. If Biden remains the veep canadate, McCain will be elected but not finish his first term either. How do I know all of this stuff . . .

Back to page topMongoBinBongo,
You are right on with the predictions!! I think Biden's bowing out will bring about the Demonrats ultimate low point! They will win the Limbo contest for sure [how low can you go].... Hillary will make it to the White House one way or the other. If Biden becomes the "scum of the Earth" and lets her run in his place, Hillera will do what LBJ did to JFK. Heck her and Bill have had lots of practice knocking off Arkansas Troopers, their Lawyers, etc., so Obama will be a walk in the park. Big time politics is a nasty and dangerous business. If they ever did a movie about what really happens, no one would believe it.
