Help for the poverty-stricken in Koochiching County

If we are so worried about people in Africa going hungry, why not worry about the people in our own community going hungry?

This is a little group I am hoping many will join to help the people in our community who go hungry. Maybe start up a monthly or weekly soup kitchen.

Which Stores That We Used To Have Do You Miss The Most!

Under another forum the comment of missing Lucca's Store came up and I thought what a great topic to discuss. I REALLY miss the small grocery with a meat counter. At one time there was Lucca's, Hay's, Rauschers, and Harry Ericksons just to name a few. If I go out of town I try to stop at a meat market. The range still has a few that are wonderful. They have great homemade items and great olive oil in wonderful fancy bottles. This topic brings to mind a time when we had stores at the mall and shops downtown. What do you miss?

KEDA Is A Total Mess

If the KEDA was located in another country they maybe would have an excuse for not checking on the progress of the fish company. When the new fisheries started with the support of this organization the fish were supposed to come from the Thunderbay area. I agree with the Wagners on the change of plans which now gives the location of the fish supply to be Rainy Lake. This organization has not followed up on the progress of this company at all.

Mill Town Decays in NH

I hope the City, Chamber, County, and other citizen groups have been giving this looming potential challenge some serious discussion.

North Central MN probably has some advantages that the town in this article does not have.

home in the area

My husband and I are relocating back to this area and are interested in contact from anyone willing to explore a rent to own or contract for deed situation. We would like to live within 30 miles of the Falls and the home needs to be less than $80,000. We need 3 bedrooms. We have been on a contract for deed for five years now and can provide a reference if needed.
We are both employed here and are driving back and forth from the Iron Range weekly. You might just be the person/s with the property we are looking for!

Good summer reads

It feels like summer and summer often brings a chance to lull by the lake and dive into a good book.

I recently finished two fun, quick summer reads: "Fifth Horseman" and "Sixth Target." They are a part of Jame Patterson's Women's Murder Club novels and I am hoping to get my hands on the next in line, "Seventh Heaven."

Anybody else suggest some good summer reads?

Ask the Minnesota Vikings

A Daily Journal staff member will be heading to Vikings Training camp next week. We are asking our readers to submit their questions for the asking. What are the burning questions you have for our very own Minnesota Viking football players? We'll do our best to ask your questions and return with the answers. Please note that Coach Childress and Tarvaris Jackson will not be available for questions.

To submit a question, please add your question here (no responses from the peanut gallery or this blog will be disabled) or please e-mail directly to: online@ifallsdailyjournal.com.

Trip to England

I have a question out there? Who is paying for Don Langan's trip to England for his "educational" training? If from the school district, how much?

Rental properties

I was wondering if anyone knew who owns the apartments on main street? How do you contact the owners...what about rental housing in I. Falls? Any contact info would be appreciated. Thanks

Gas prices

We have all watched the price of gas continue to climb and cause many changes in our way of life. We have all grumbled and complained. I personally don't like it and am watching how much I drive. This is the way it is for now and we have to live with it.

What I don't like is how the local gas stations deal with it. I don't have a problem with a station raising their price if their tanker load comes in higher; but I don't understand why when one station raises, they all do.
